Finally, I am no longer sick. After a solid week of headaches, itchy throat and coughing I appear to be symptom free. If I could skip class this week I certainly would in order to attend Thursday’s Frank Portman appearance. Fortunately for you and I, I know a little secret and although I won’t be seeing Mr. Portman (no, no relation to the beautiful Natalie) this week, look for another appearance in the coming weeks which I will be attending.
Update: Mr. Portman will be making an appearance on Tuesday in Oakland!!
Tuesday, August 25th
@ 7pm (updated)
- Frank Portman (click the link to check out his blog), Author referenced above and below has informed me that he will also be appearing at Cato’s Ale House in Oakland where he will be “Singing”, chatting (hopefully with the likes of me), reading and signing his new book Andromeda Klein. Oh, and thats not all, there will be magic, a stand-up psychic (should be entertaining for sure) and the very beautiful poet/author, Jennifer Sky Band. Seeing as I don’t have class on Tuesday’s, I think i’ll be making an appearance too. Thanks for the comment and the head’s up Frank!
@ 730pm
- Bonnie Tsui, Author of American Chinatown: A People’s History of Five Neighborhoods, will be reading and signing from her book at Kepler’s Books in Menlo park. Following up on a recent book I just finished The Fortune Cookie Chronicles this could be an interesting discussion regarding five of the most prominent Chinatowns in the US including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Las Vegas. Maybe you’ll learn why there are chickens on the 45 and 30 MUNI buses or why Washington Square is a haven for early morning Tai Chi.
Thursday, August 27th
@ 7pm
Frank Portman, Author, will be reading from and signing copies of his new book Andromeda Klein at Diesel, a Bookstore in Oakland. This will be his second appearance after the book is actually released on August 25th . Senor Portman writes young adult books and I have had his first book King Dork on my list to read for some time now. I bought it over the weekend so I will certainly be posting a review in the near future.
Friday, August 28th
@ 2pm
Dave Eggers, Author of several books including What is the What as well as his latest Zeitoun and a bay area local will be back in the city reading and signing at the Sally Brunn/Noe Valley Public Library. Why he makes all his appearances during the day befuddles me and frustrates me as I would certainly enjoy being able to meet Mr. Eggers but can’t get away from work to do so. The fact though that he’ll be at a library as opposed to a bookstore is pretty cool.
Unfortunately I did not have all the time I typically do in order to fully research this weeks events. Expect a couple of updates if I find something over the course of the week!
